Exteriors
Maintaining the exterior of your home or business is critical to protecting your investment. Every Andy Gold proposal includes a thorough assessment of exterior work needed, including cleaning of siding, sanding, paint removal, caulking, puttying, priming and minor repairs.
Andy's crews take great care to protect the landscaping around your house. If shrubs or trees have become overgrown, Andy can recommend a professional landscaper.
Interiors
Andy Gold Painting works with skill and precision to give interiors a beautiful, crisp look. Painstaking prep ensures that your rooms will remain beautiful for years to come. We will scrutinize your walls for surface irregularities, and provide professional drywall repair when needed. Andy‘s crew will respect your furnishings, floors, adjacent rooms, and your privacy. We use low VOC paints to reduce paint odor so you can continue to occupy your space while we are painting.
Preparation
Every building is different. That's why a thorough assessment of your structure is an important first step. During this process we identify any problems that require special attention, and then complete a thorough prep before any paint is applied. Meticulous preparation will ensure a quality outcome of lasting beauty.
The following steps are baseline:
- pressure wash all surfaces
- replace exterior siding and trim as needed
- replace and/or reset nails and fasteners as needed
- scrape and/or wire brush peeling and cracking paint
- sand smooth rough edges to feather in scraped areas on trim and siding
- putty and caulk to fill in holes and gaps around windows and on siding joints
Decks
Andy Gold Painting is expert at bringing life back into your neglected or aging decks. Every deck is different and the first time Andy works on a deck he likes to take it back to square one so he knows exactly what he is working with. Careful attention is given to the surrounding landscaping, siding and animals.
The following steps are considered essential for any deck:
- blow off all debris and clean out gaps between boards
- reset nails or screws as needed
- pressure wash boards
- chemically clean and brighten wood as needed
Some decks require more attention such as:
- sanding to even the surface
- removal of old stain either chemically or by sanding
- replacement of defective boards
Andy is familiar with a variety of excellent products, and he can recommend the best one for your particular deck needs. The deciding factors are sun and weather exposure and decking material.
Green Painting
Today we have many options for green materials that contain low or no VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds). This is especially important indoors because low or no VOC paint products can dramatically reduce odor. In addition to VOC considerations, Andy complies with recent federal certification requirements for lead-based paint removal (LBP). Any home built before 1978 might contain lead paint and therefore requires contractor certification by the State of Oregon Contractors Board. Andy Gold Painting is committed to using environmentally sound best practices.
Long-Term Maintenance
Yearly inspection addressing areas of fading or failing paint, mildew, animal damage (birds in particular), warped siding and weather damage is essential to help protect your investment. Depending on the structureʼs setting, annual power-washing may be indicated to keep paint clean and free of dirt and other environmental debris such as tree resins, pollens and shed needles.
Annual deck maintenance programs offer cleaning of deck surfaces and between boards to clear debris that can accumulate and damage wood and stain. Depending on a deckʼs exposure, annual staining may be in the best interest of maintaining an optimal deck finish.
High Desert Climate
In addition to sun and extreme dryness, the high desert environment poses the more serious threat of fire. Over the years, many homes and structures in this area have been lost to fire. Fortunately, fire supression products are available for cedar shake roofs and siding. These products are applied like a stain and help to keep wood from igniting when exposed to sparks and flame.
Defensible Space If your home or business is located in an outlying area, the most important fire prevention step you can take is to create a defensible space around the structure by clearing flammable plants and materials. A knowledgeable landscape contractor can help you create a defensible space. Andy Gold recommends J.L. Scott Landscape Maintenance at www.jlscottlandscape.com. The Greater Bend Community Wildfire Protection Plan has specific guidelines for creating a defensible space around structures.
